A meal at Restaurant 1877 is prepared with our knowledge and love of food. These are key ingredients to provide you, the diner, with an unforgettable experience. Our menu is built on our close relationship to local suppliers, and commitment to using the best raw ingredients. We are inspired by Norwegian food culture, in particular, Western Norway’s agricultural traditions. Bergen is renowned for its wet and changeable weather; this provides us with many exciting flavours and raw ingredients. To experience four seasons in one day is not a rare occurrence in Bergen. This is a challenge to many; for us it ensures diversity, creativity, and inspiration in the kitchen.
It is important to us that each course provides a unique experience with its own story.
A meal at Restaurant 1877 is just a few hours of your life.
We hope you remember it for much longer!

Right in the heart of Bergen,
we have opened our outside dining,

and something refreshing
on a warm summer day.
Right in the heart of Bergen is outdoor dining, Veranda 1877. A charming meeting place where one can enjoy a platter and something refreshing to drink on a warm summer’s day. Outdoor seating is open Tuesday to Saturday, when the weather permits.
For those wanting something light to eat, we can offer a platter that can be eaten as snacks to share or enjoyed alone. “Maulemat” is a Norwegian twist on traditional tapas. The course could consist of local cheeses, homemade sausage, vegetable crisps, wild garlic dip, salads, crispbread, ham, and pickles. It is also possible to buy single homemade snacks like beer-roasted almonds.
Food with love and knowledge.
Restaurant 1877 opened in January 2013. The restaurant is located in the venerable “Kjøttbaseren” (meat bazaar); 1877 is the year the market opened. The city’s market is another name for this building. This was where market trade was checked. Inside, the venue of brick and wood, brass plates and wrought iron lanterns, were built into stalls for a hygienic and controlled trade. With a strong focus on local raw produce and historic cultural references in the use of food, crockery, cutlery and decanters, we believe that we manage heritage in Meat Bazaar well. Using our knowledge and love of food, we do our best at giving you, the guest, a unique and memorable experience.
